Kate Growden Student Rep

Elena - Student Voice

Kate

Hello fellow Tafe student. I'm Kate and in my second year of study at TAFE SA. I started in 2023 with a 'fee free' course in Event Management at Regency campus. This led to me applying for and being successful in gaining a destination Australia scholarship to study bachelor's degree in Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management at the Barossa campus. Tafe has so many opportunities available to its students to ensure success and growth. I believe in getting the absolute most out of the learning experience, and I hope you do to. Please come chat with me about anything Tafe but be warned - I love to talk :-)

Elena

I’m a student in the Course in Legal Studies program and work in copyright by day. Passionate about fairness and equal opportunities, I’m here to be a voice for those who feel unheard at TAFE SA. My goal is to listen, learn, and contribute in any way I can while growing both personally and professionally. Open to ideas, conversations, and collaboration, I’m excited to be part of this journey and help shape a more inclusive and supportive space for all.

Gurnar

Hey everyone! I’m Gurnar, currently wrangling textbooks and coffee cups while studying the Diploma of Nursing at TAFE SA. I joined Student Voice because I believe TAFE life should be more than just assessments and due dates—it should be fun, supportive, and full of memes (and maybe a little learning too). I’m here to make sure your ideas, questions, and even your weirdest suggestions are heard and taken seriously (well... mostly!). When I’m not on campus, you’ll find me volunteering, binge-watching medical dramas for “study purposes,” or convincing myself that assignments do better under pressure..

Jemimah

Hi, my name is Jemimah and I’m currently studying Diploma of Nursing. Empowering students at TAFE means enabling the tools, confidence, and opportunities to take charge of their learning and future. I’m passionate about using my voice to represent fellow students, especially when it comes to improving learning experiences and enhancing supportive, inclusive environments. As a future nurse, I value listening, advocating and making a positive impact both in healthcare and within the TAFE community. I’m also enthusiastic about encouraging involvement in organising events and initiatives that foster connection, engagement, a stronger sense of belonging and celebrating the achievements of students. Outside of my study life, you can find me ticking off a cafe on my list or window shopping. Please feel free to approach me anytime on campus, whether it's raising a concern or talking about nice matcha spots, I'm here for anything :)

Viviane

Hi, my name is Viviane Santos, I joined the Student Voice group at TAFE SA as I believe students should feel heard, supported and represented throughout their study journey. Before returning to study, I worked for six years in Aged Care and built my career as a Nursing Auditor. In that role, I was responsible for reviewing clinical documentation and patient records. This experience made me increasingly aware of how sensitive personal and health information is and how important it is to protect it. I often found myself thinking about data security, privacy risks, and how systems could be improved to better safeguard vulnerable people. Currently on maternity leave and raising my two young boys — an 8-year-old and an 11-month-old — I made the decision to change career paths and study Cyber Security.

As a full-time mum and student, I understand the challenges of balancing study, family and personal responsibilities. This perspective allows me to advocate not only for academic excellence, but also for flexibility, wellbeing and inclusive support services. I joined Student Voice because I want to contribute to meaningful improvements at TAFE SA, especially around student support, communication, and creating a safe and inclusive learning environment. My background in healthcare has given me a strong sense of responsibility, ethics, and attention to detail, qualities I now bring into the field of Cyber Security and into my role as a Student Voice Representative. I look forward to representing students’ perspectives and helping strengthen the connection between students and the institution.

Aroha

Aroha

Hello everyone, my name is Aroha and I am currently undertaking Cert III and IV in Women's Advocacy at both the Elizabeth and Adelaide campuses. Over the past 12 months, I have developed a profound understanding of the challenges faced by women within education and social systems. I hold the Women's Education team in the highest regard and welcome opportunities to connect with current students for support and constructive dialogue.

I have joined Student Voice to ensure that the perspectives of women and the Women's Education unit are effectively represented on the committee. More importantly, I am dedicated to advocating for the revision of outdated or inequitable policies that may impede student progress and equity. My goal is to amplify student voices and contribute to meaningful, positive change within the campus community. I look forward to engaging with many of you and working collaboratively towards a more inclusive and equitable learning environment.

Jezalia

My name is Jezalia and I am a current regional student. I'm studying a Certificate III in Community Services to advance to further study to become an advocate in human rights. I am a person living with a vision impairment that believes all people from diverse backgrounds should have the right to a fair education. Even though I'm visually impaired, that does not stop me from loving music, makeup, learning, psychology, law and advocating on important topics that matter most. I am a strong believe in equality as in my past I have experienced discrimination. I would love to educate you about my disability to hopefully help you with understanding it. I wish you all the very best with your personal journey, don't be afraid to ask for help as self advocating is important.

Jo-Anne

Jo-Anne

Hi, my name is Jo-Anne, and I am studying a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education. I live in Whyalla and I wanted to take part in Student Voice as I like to be very involved in whatever I do. I feel we need to have someone to help voice any concerns or to say what is working well.

I look forward to collaborating with everyone and learning from this experience.

Hi, my name is James and I'm currently studying to get a certificate II in cookery. I enjoy baking as hobby and being able to share what I make with other people. After I've finished with my current course I plan to go on with further study in another subject at TAFE and hope to use the education obtained here to find a job I like. I also enjoy playing video games in my spare time, having a long list of games I still want to play through. I hope I can leave a positive impact on TAFE going forward and get to meet a whole bunch of different people in the process.

Katie

Hi, I'm Katie, I'm currently studying IT and I'm proudly neurodiverse.

I decided to join the student voice because I'm interested in improving the student experience and wellbeing. If you ever feel lost or need to open up to someone who is willing to advocate for you or take on feedback to use it constructively, or if you need some study tips, please reach out, my study path has been far from smooth, so trust me, I know what it feels like to need someone who can relate to you.

I've studied various subjects including Community services, hairdressing, barbering and Psychology, I'm not just here for my IT peers, I'm here to work for you and what you need or want from your student experience both now and for the future. Talk to you soon :)

Amanda

Hi, I'm Amanda from regional South Australia. I study the SEE program and Cookery and Food Safety at TAFE SA and plan to study Community Services in the future so I can work with young people. I love cooking, enjoy helping others, and I'm committed to learning practical skills that make a real difference in people's lives.

I'm a great listener and I care about people from all levels of society. Being part of Student Voice means using my experience to make sure regional and online students have their voices heard. I want to improve connection, communication, and access to practical support so every student feels included, understood, and supported.

On Student Voice, I'll advocate for clearer information, stronger student connections, and better access to services - especially for students studying remotely or regionally.

Please return again soon to see more profiles and introductions of our Student Voice Representatives.
