Four greyhounds looking for their forever homes

Oct 06, 2026

Izzy, Tubs, Tina and Cash are ready to be adopted through TAFE SA's veterinary training program.

As part of PETSinTuition, these retired racing greyhounds have been spending time on campus getting used to everyday life. They've been meeting new people, exploring different places and learning the skills they need to become relaxed family pets.

Now they're ready for their next adventure. If you're happy to trade a bit of couch space for a very loyal companion, one of them could be perfect for you.

How to adopt?

Ask at the Veterinary and Applied Science Centre (VASC) reception at our Gilles Plains campus for an application form. You can return it to VASC reception or email it to anna.rogers@tafesa.edu.au.

Meet the greyhounds up for adoption:

Izzy

Izzy the greyhound

Age: 3 years

Sex: Female

Desexed: Yes

Izzy is a cuddly, affectionate, quiet and gentle girl who adores people and wants to say hello to everyone she meets, though she's respectful and patient about it. She's playful, loves her toys and enjoys a short zoomie or walk. Out and about she's active and curious, but back in her kennel she's happily lazy. Izzy had a significant leg break during her racing career, so she now has a plate in her front left leg and walks with a permanent limp. It doesn't stop her doing everything a dog is meant to do, but it does come with a few restrictions worth talking through.

Good to know about Izzy:

  • Cuddly, gentle and quietly affectionate
  • Best suited to a quiet home where exercise isn't heavy, or is more controlled
  • Still loves an excursion to see new people and explore
  • Has a plate in her front left leg from a racing injury and walks with a permanent limp. Ask VASC staff about her restrictions
  • Still learning about other breeds and polite greetings, and will need continued training after adoption
  • Best suited as an only dog, or with an independent and tolerant medium–large dog
  • Suitable for apartments or small yards
  • Children aged 10 and over, only because of her racing injury
  • No pocket pets or cats

Tubs

Tubs the greyhound

Age: 4.5 years

Sex: Male

Desexed: Yes

Tubs is a goofy, loving and energetic boy who brings plenty of fun and laughs wherever he goes. He adores people and is always keen for pats, attention and being part of the action. He would thrive with an active family and a backyard where he can run, play and burn off energy, and he'd love a young friend to play with or another canine companion.

Good to know about Tubs:

  • Goofy, loving, cuddly and energetic
  • Loves toys, especially stuffed toys, and is very playful with them and with people
  • Can be jumpy and overly enthusiastic, sometimes playing a little rough or forgetting his manners when excited
  • Usually walks nicely on a loose lead, but may pull when excited by people, dogs or interesting things around him
  • Generally good with other dogs and little dogs on lead, but can become overly excited and come across as rude during interactions
  • Off lead, Tubs lacks spatial awareness and may accidentally run into people or other dogs, which can overwhelm some canine friends
  • No cats or pocket pets
  • Needs a backyard for those energetic zoomies
  • Suited as an only dog, or with a medium to large canine friend
  • Best suited to a home with children aged 8 and over, as he may knock over younger children in his excitement

Tina

Tina the greyhound

Age: 4 years

Sex: Female

Desexed: Yes

Tina is a bouncy, quirky and loving girl who makes the most of every day and brings fun wherever she goes, but she also loves being lazy when a bed is available. She's a true people lover who happily seeks pats and affection from everyone she meets. She's playful and cuddly, with a special love for stuffed toys, making her a fantastic little adventurer.

Good to know about Tina:

  • Bouncy, quirky, loving, affectionate and energetic
  • Loves zoomies, exploring new places, water and throwing her stuffed toys around
  • Generally walks on a loose lead, but can pull when an interesting scent catches her attention
  • Easily distracted by the exciting world around her and enjoys stopping to investigate everything
  • Gets along well with other greyhounds
  • Still learning how to greet and interact with other breeds politely, and is sometimes a little too enthusiastic, which can upset the other dog
  • Children aged 5 and over
  • No cats or pocket pets
  • Needs a small to large backyard where she can enjoy zoomies, playtime and exploration
  • Suited as an only dog, or with a medium to large canine companion

Cash

Cash the greyhound

Age: 5 years

Sex: Male

Desexed: Yes

Cash is an excitable, cuddly and affectionate boy who adores people and happily shares his love with everyone he meets. He's always seeking out pats, cuddles and companionship. Cash loves going for walks and exploring his surroundings, making him a wonderful companion for an active household.

Good to know about Cash:

  • Excitable, cuddly, food motivated, sweet and affectionate
  • People focused and always wants to be included in everything his people are doing
  • A busybody by nature who likes to investigate his environment before he can fully settle and relax
  • Generally walks nicely on a loose lead on his own, but in a group can become competitive and pull to be at the front
  • Still learning how to interact politely with other breeds, and can be overly excited and a little rude during introductions and play
  • Gets along with other greyhounds, but doesn't appreciate being pushed around and may respond if another dog is rude to him
  • Due to food guarding around other dogs (fine with people), he's best suited as a solo pet
  • No pocket pets or cats
  • Suitable for children aged 5 and over, and a home with a small yard
  • Doesn't like confinement or car rides
