Could you be a carer? National Carers Week 2026

Oct 06, 2026

National Carers Week takes place from 11 to 17 October. It is a time to recognise and celebrate carers, including students who care for someone in their lives.

This year's theme, Caring for Careers, reminds us that people who care for others need care and support too.

Could you be a carer?

You could be a carer if you regularly support someone in your life because of illness, disability, mental health needs, age or other circumstances.

You might:

  • help with everyday tasks or appointments

  • provide emotional support

  • help someone manage their health or wellbeing

  • balance caring with study, work or family life.

Hear from carers about their experiences

How you help to raise awareness

Carers do a lot for our communities. Many also balance caring with work, study and family life.

This National Carers Week, you can help raise awareness and show your support for carers.

You could:

  • Start a conversation – learn more about caring and help others understand what carers do.

  • Share National Carers Week resources – share resources on social media to help more people learn about carers.

  • Share your story – if you’re a carer, sharing your experience can help others understand what caring can be like.

  • Recognise a carer – check in with a carer you know and let them know their support matters.

If you’re a carer and would like to share your experience, you can also submit your story to National Carers Week.

Need support?

If you’re balancing study with caring for someone, you don’t have to manage everything on your own.

Our Student Success and Wellbeing team offers free and confidential support to our students. They can also help connect you with other services and resources.
