Every year, Refugee Week is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the contributions, stories and resilience of refugees and people seeking asylum. This year's theme, A Million Stories, is a reminder that behind every statistic is a person with a unique story worth hearing.
This year, Refugee Week is from Sunday 14 June to Saturday 20 June. TAFE SA is marking the occasion with a number of initiatives celebrating the stories, cultures and experiences of students and young people across South Australia.
Our Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) supports people from refugee and migrant backgrounds to build their English language skills and confidence as they settle into life in Australia. This Refugee Week, we're giving some of our AMEP students the chance to share their stories in their own words.
Look out for QR codes displayed across all TAFE SA campuses from 19–25 June. Each code links to a short recording of a student sharing their personal journey, culture and experiences. The recordings are a celebration of the diversity within our community. Take a moment to scan, listen and reflect.
On Wednesday 10 June, join us at the TAFE SA City Campus Atrium for a unique conversation event presented in collaboration with Hon. Mira El Dannawi MLC and convened by the Australian Migrant Resource Centre (AMRC).
Date: Wednesday 10 June 2026Time: 11:00 am – 2:00 pmLocation: TAFE SA Adelaide City Campus - Atrium
Instead of borrowing a book, you're invited to borrow a conversation. Refugees and migrants will share their stories through intimate one-on-one chats with community members. This is an opportunity to ask honestly, listen deeply and honour each other's journey through the power of shared stories.
This event is presented in collaboration with the TAFE SA Student Wellbeing and Careers team, convened by the AMRC.
TAFE SA is proud to host the launch of the AMRC SA Refugee Week Youth Poster Awards Exhibition at Adelaide College of the Arts during Refugee Week.
Date: Friday 19 June 2026 Time: 11:00 am – 2:00 pm Location: Adelaide College of the Arts - Atirum
This is an Australian Migrant Resource Centre (AMRC) event, funded by the Department of Education. The exhibition showcases powerful works from primary, secondary and tertiary students across South Australia, all inspired by the theme A Million Stories. Through their posters, young people explore diverse journeys, identities and perspectives, reflecting on what it means to belong, to hope and to share a future together.
Following the launch, the posters will remain on display in the atrium at Adelaide College of the Arts until 25 June, so there will be plenty of opportunity to visit and take in the artwork.
This Refugee Week, the TAFE SA library is inviting you to explore A Million Stories through a curated collection of books and online resources. Visit the library displays at Adelaide and Salisbury campuses to discover featured resources and take the opportunity to share your own story.
Start with these recommended titles:
Search 'Refugee' in the library catalogue to find a wide range of eBooks, articles and personal accounts, including Weathering the Storm: Career development stories of Syrian refugee women in Turkiye.
Whether you attend the launch, scan a QR code on campus or browse the library collection, we encourage you to engage with these stories and be part of this shared experience during Refugee Week.
