International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women

Nov 15, 2024

We all deserve to be safe, equal and respected. More than 1 in 3 women have experienced men’s violence. Safety for women is not a given in any community – and neither is respect. It doesn't have to be this way.

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is a global campaign led annually by UN Women. It runs every year from 25 November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day).

During the 16 Days of Activism, communities around the world join the call to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls.

Make a difference

If you would like to make a difference to women who are experiencing homeliness this Christmas, you can make a donation to Catherine House at any of our Student Hubs around the state.

What to donate

We are proud to support the Catherine House Christmas Wishlist and help brighten the holidays for women experiencing homelessness this Christmas.

If you would like to contribute an item or two, donation collection boxes will be available at every campus hub from Monday 25 November to Friday 6 December.

How to get involved

  •  Yarrow Place will lead a panel of sexual assault survivors to discuss what we can all do to support recovery of sexual assault. Register here.
  • Ivan Phillips, a TAFE SA employee and White Ribbon Ambassador against Domestic Violence will be visiting some of our regional campuses to tell his story and commemorate his daughter, who was tragically taken by domestic violence. Ivan travels around Australia sharing his daughter's story and promotes prevention of violence against women. Register here to come along and hear Ivan's story at these campuses:
    • Barossa Valley | Tuesday 26 November
    • Kadina | Monday 25 November
    • Mount Gambier | Thursday 28 November

Where to get help

During the 16 Days of Activism campaign, some of the content we read or hear may affect us. We encourage you to take care of yourselves and support each other.

If you need, reach out to someone for support—a friend, peer, lecturer, or through our Student Success and Wellbeing team or 1800RESPECT
