Regardless of how you identify, TAFE SA is committed to providing an environment that celebrates and welcomes gender diversity, promotes equality and inclusion.

Your rights and safety

The safety of students is central to what we do at TAFE SA. All students of the TAFE SA community are entitled to be treated with fairness and respect and experience a study environment free from discrimination, harassment or bullying.

We are committed to ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all members of our community.  We have a zero-tolerance policy which supports a safe learning environment.  If you or someone you know are experiencing discrimination, harassment, or bullying you can find support at TAFE SA.

Student Support 

TAFE SA's Student Counselling service provides a supportive and safe environment for all individuals as they explore and affirm their sexuality and gender identity, including non-binary genders. Student Counselling services offer a range of services, resources, and information for TAFE SA students, and can also assist you to connect with outside organisations and support services.

Community Support and Resources

South Australian LGBTIQ+ Networks, Organisations and Support Groups

  • Bfriend - Peer support for those who are newly identifying or questioning their sexuality or gender. They offer free and confidential services include peer support, community connections, workplace training and volunteering opportunities for the community.
  • Rainbow Directory SA - LGBTIQA+ services & activities across SA.
  • SA Gender Diverse Allies (GENDASA) – A facebook group for gender diverse people and their allies to create community and discuss all thing gender diverse.
  • SAMESH provides support, education and training about Sexual Health and HIV for men who have sex with men and people living with HIV, as well as services for the broader LGBTIQ community, in South Australia.
  • Trans Health SA proudly hosts the SA Practitioners’ List as well as resources for the community to seek support and social engagement. See the Trans-Specific Groups list to find out more about the Social and Support groups available.

SA Region Specific Community Groups:

  • Adelaide: Friends Up – A group for 35+ gay and bisexual men to socialize and make friends in Adelaide.
  • Country SA: Gender Connect -Shine SA provides a free service that provides confidential support from peer workers with lived experience of gender diversity.
  • Limestone Coast: LGBTIQ Connect - A group connecting all LGBTQA+ living on the limestone coast with information, events, news, support and education.
  • Port Pirie: LGBTIQ - A community group working towards an inclusive and supportive Port Pirie for LGBTIQA+ people.
  • Adelaide: Pride of the South – An inclusive and family friendly group for all LGBTQ+ people living in the Southern communities of Adelaide.
