IDAHOBIT 2024

May 08, 2024

Today we're celebrating IDAHOBIT 2024, an international day to support LGBTIQA+ communities and raise awareness against discrimination.

History

It was only in 1990 that The World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems on 17 May 1990.

More still needs to be done with LGBTIQA+ communities still facing discrimination. Two in three LGBTIQA+ youth experience abuse due to their identity.

IDAHOBIT has become a day of celebration, action and inclusion, with people across the world urged to take a stand against discrimination.

For the next week we are celebrating the diversity in our organisation and if you would like to get involved, please consider the activities below:

Go rainbow!

We have rainbow ‘selfie’ frames at student hubs to encourage students and staff to take a ‘rainbow selfie’ and commit to action.

If you’re at the Adelaide College of the Arts or the Currie street campus, remember you can also step out to the Pride Walk.

Established in 2016, and created in collaboration with historian Ian Purcell AM, the Pride Walk features the dates of major legal and policy reforms in South Australia.

Art competition

We are launching an art competition to raise awareness and promote inclusivity and acceptance within our community through artistic expression.

Works can be submitted digitally to studenthubadelaide@tafesa.edu.au or in person at any TAFE SA student hub.

Submissions are now open and will close on 31 July.
